Meet Marie LaRose, LLMSW

There are many pathways to recovery and wellness, let’s find yours together!  I help you to draw on your existing strengths while learning new coping skills to reduce and manage anxiety, depression, or distressing emotions that are disrupting your life. I offer safe, comfortable, non-judgemental support and guidance through grief and loss or significant life changes. I have special interest in helping people who were formerly incarcerated or families of individuals who are/were incarcerated. My personal and professional experience in the criminal justice system lends me to offer support to those who are impacted by the challenge of healing from or navigating the legal system.

My expertise is in treating substance addiction. I am a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor with 14 years of inpatient and outpatient experience. Recovering from substance use is a difficult journey that can sometimes feel lonely and confusing. Maybe you have tried attending Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings over and over and it’s just not working. Maybe you have tried “quitting cold turkey” only to keep returning to use or drink after a few days, weeks, or months.  I can help guide you to break the cycle of addiction by utilizing multiple therapeutic approaches: cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and psychodynamic theory. I assist in helping you approach, process, and challenge the unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, life experiences, and behavior patterns that have led to managing difficulties with drugs or alcohol. I also encourage the use of worksheets, books, role-playing, and activities during and in between sessions to practice and reinforce new coping skills. I believe therapy should be engaging as well as healing.

Taking that first step to start therapy is often the hardest, but also one of the most rewarding and kindest gifts for yourself. I strive to help you empower yourself to make positive changes in your life.
